Get ready for the first ever AstriCon Hackathon! A worldwide community of designers, developers, and communications technologists will be gathering to create, code, and design apps built on Asterisk, Respoke, and other communications APIs.

Tuesday Oct 21

5PM - 7PM Hackathon Reception & Check-In (Cherry Lounge) 

Grab a drink, check in for the Hackathon, and network with the other participants to find a team. At the reception you'll recieve an overview of the APIs and all of the details you need to know for the Hackathon the next day. Bring your laptop and we'll help you set up your ChallengePost app page. 

Wednesday Oct 22

8 AM Check-In (Summerlin A) 

This session is an opportunity for teams to check in that are not able to make it to the Tuesday night reception. Each participant must be registered on ChallengePost and each app must have a page to qualify.  

9 AM Hackathon Starts

8 hours of communications hacking starts at 9 AM in the Hackathon room. Developer Evangelists will be available all day to help you out.

3 PM ChallengePost Submission Deadline

All app pages on ChallengePost must be submitted by 3 PM so that they can be reviewed in time for judging at 5 PM. You can continue to hack on your app until 5 PM. 

5 PM - 7 PM Judging

Each team will have 3-5 minutes to give a demo of their app for our panel of expert judges. The top 3 teams will have an opportunity to show their demo to the entire AstriCon audience.

9 AM Grand Prize Winners Awarded

The top three teams be awarded during the morning's keynote. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place app pages on Challenge Post will be featured as we call on everyone to vote for Popular Choice. 

All Day Open Voting for Popular Choice

Everyone at AstriCon will have an opportunity to vote for the Popular Choice award. 

Friday OCT 24

9 AM Popular Choice Winner Awarded

The Popular Choice prize will be awarded during Friday morning's keynote session.

Eligibility

Anyone registered for AstriCon 2014 is eligible to participate in the Hackathon for FREE. 

Employees of sponsoring companies are not eligible to win prizes. 

Requirements

Participants should create an interesting, creative, or useful app using at least one of the sponsored APIs. The idea of the hack may be conceived previously, but all of the code must be completed within the time limits of the event. See official rules for more details. 

Developer Evangelists will be on site during the Hackathon to help participants.

First Place

First place as chosen by the judging panel.

Each team member will be awarded a Tessel JavaScript microcontroller plus multiple hardware modules.

Second Place

Second place as chosen by the judging panel.
Each team member will be awarded a Sphero programmable ball.

Third Place

Third place as chosen by the judging panel. Each team member will be awarded a Photojojo mobile phone photo lens pack.

Popular Choice

This award will be granted to the app that gets the most votes during open voting. $100 Amazon Gift Card + FREE Admission to AstriCon 2015 for each member of the winning team. Everyone at AstriCon is encouraged to participate in choosing the popular choice winner.

Asterisk Award

App chosen by the Asterisk team for best use of Asterisk in the hackathon. Each team member will be awarded a Rasberry PI B with Adafruit Wifi Module.

Respoke Award

App chosen by the Respoke team for best use of Respoke in the hackathon. Each team member will be awarded a Leap Motion Controller.

Clarify Award

App chosen by the Clarify team for best use of Clarify in the hackathon. Winning team will be awarded an awesome Lego pack.

To participate in the AstriCon Hackathon follow these easy steps:

  1. Register for the AstriCon Conference on Asterisk.org.
  2. Sign up here by clicking on "Register for this Hackathon" on the Hackathon homepage. By registering you agree to the Hackathon Rules and Code of Conduct
  3. Complete the on-site check in prior to the start of the contest.

  • Scale of Awesome
    Our panel of expert judges will choose the top three entries based on the overall creativity, usefulness and awesomeness of the app. The top three hacks get to present their demo to the entire AstriCon audience.
